    Overview
I am an experienced researcher and have worked in various medical schools in the United States since 1985. During these years I have advanced from a Rockefeller Foundation post-doctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, through the professorial ranks, to a full Professor at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. In 2010, I joined Charles R. Drew University (CDU) of Medicine and science. During this period I have contributed to research in translational and biomedical sciences. Additionally, during my tennure as a Director Molecular Cytology Core, General Clinical Research Center, Harbor UCLA Medical Center and as a Program Director of MBRS SCORE Program in CDU, I provided hands-on training to our students and faculties to increase their familiarities in various instruments as wells to advance their research career in biomedical science.

My research for past several years has centered on cardio-metabolic diseases targeted to define the contribution of nicotine (either parenterally administered of delivered via electronic nicotine delivery system) and obesity to the development of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, muscle steatosis, and cardiomyopathy. I have published over 130 peer-reviewed articles in premier journals including Apoptosis, Biology of Reproduction, Endocrinology, Molecular Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Genes & Development., and Hepatology. More recently,, I have published an editorial and co-edited an e-book on obesity, smoking, and fatty liver disease. I also authored 14 book chapters, and co-authored a highly regarded book entitled "Histological and Histopathological Evaluation of the Testis".

Currently, I am actively involved in research training of high school, undergraduate, medical students, Ph.D., and M.D. postdoctoral fellows.

Publications listed below are automatically derived from MEDLINE/PubMed and other sources, which might result in incorrect or missing publications. Faculty can login to make corrections and additions.
Newest   |   Oldest   |   Most Cited   |   Most Discussed   |   Timeline   |   Field Summary   |   Plain Text
PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
