    Overview
Homero E. del Pino has a BA in philosophy from Cornell University and holds a doctorate in philosophy and a master of science in clinical research from UCLA. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is also a Research Health Scientist in the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.

As a philosopher, Dr. del Pino focused on ethics and wrote his dissertation on the topic of weakness of the will. He then worked with health departments and community-based organizations at the national level and with the CDC before starting his research career in public health. His primary research interests include the impact of family relationships on the health outcomes of sexual minority men of color across the life span, substance use, and HIV risk. He is currently the principal investigator of "Entre Herman@s," an NIH-funded, randomized controlled trial to test a sibling-based intervention to increase HIV PrEP-use among Latinx men who have sex with men. He is also the recipient of a K01 career development award to explore strategies for engaging the families of Latinx MSM in HIV prevention efforts.

He is interested in questions that lie at the intersection of culture, autonomy, and ethics.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication.
